The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Management has issued a statement to clarify the ongoing misinformation regarding the non-issuance of a Certificate of National Service (CNS) to Corps Member Ushie Rita Uguamaye, State Code Number LA/24B/8325.
In recent social media discussions, claims surfaced suggesting that Uguamaye was denied her certificate due to her critical remarks about the government.
The NYSC has categorically refuted these allegations, stating that they are entirely unfounded.
According to the NYSC, Rita Uguamaye is among 131 Corps Members whose Certificates of National Service have been withheld for legitimate disciplinary reasons. Specifically, her service year has been extended by two months because she failed to attend the required biometrics clearance in April 2025, a decision in accordance with the NYSC Bye-Laws.
The acting director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, in a statement on Sunday 10th August, emphasized that this extension is a routine procedure applied uniformly across cases of non-compliance. She urged the public to understand that extending service for such reasons is a customary practice within the NYSC and should not be misconstrued or politicized.
“The NYSC Scheme remains committed to carrying out its responsibilities in accordance with constitutional mandates,” Embu stated in the press release.
The NYSC continues to advocate for the principles of equality and fairness in its operations, ensuring that all Corps Members adhere to established regulations.
