The Director-General, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, on Monday said Nigeria’s security and regulatory agencies have sustained a high operational tempo in its efforts to combat insecurity.
Issa-Onilu stated this during the monthly National Joint Security Press Briefing held at the Agency’s national headquarters in Abuja.
Spark News Naija reports that the event is part of the Presidential mandate of NOA to present to the world a cohesive data driven narrative on the efforts being made by security Agencies to combat security challenges in the country.
According to the August 2025 reports presented by the NOA’s DG, the Army executed 261 operations; Police made 1,950 arrests and rescued 141 victims and the Nigeria Drugs and Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) seized 66,255.81 kg of narcotics.
Issa-Onilu said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) secured 588 convictions with over N21.06bn recovered and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) seized 17 containers of falsified/unsafe goods.
He added that the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has strengthened border controls with 10,803 visa approved, targeted denials, and trafficking victim interceptions were also recorded.
The DG emphasized that the results reflect positive outcomes from tighter inter-agency coordination, stronger intelligence-led actions, and expanded public-facing communication to counter misinformation in line with Presidential directives in ongoing efforts to keep the country safe.
Highlighting the improvements in performance, Issa-Onilu said pressure on arms and kidnap networks was sustained, culminating in the arrest of its leadership (Ansaru/Mahmuda) and rescue of a Taraba lecturer from kidnappers.
On the added capacity, he said the NDLEA deployed 48 new vehicles nationwide; Police commissioned 2 new Area Commands and upgraded 5 stations in Benue, boosting reach and response.
“I want to assure you gentlemen of the press that our troops are degrading terror logistics and protecting communities and commuters. We also want to appreciate members of the public as citizens’ tips are turning into lifesaving operations”, the NOA boss said.
