The Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha has reaffirmed the Federal government’s commitment to transforming the Kawu Grazing Reserve into a model of sustainable development.
While speaking to the local leaders and community members, on Saturday during the flag off of borehole project in Kawu, Maiha stated that a plan to address critical infrastructure needs in the area, including education, healthcare, and livestock management is in place.
The Minister noted that the grazing reserve, spanning approximately 9,000 hectares and home to over 30,000 cattle and 10,000 people, is not just a livestock area but a vital community hub.
He also disclosed the Ministry’s collaboration with various agencies, including the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), the Ministry of Health, and the Rural Electrification Agency, to bring solar power to the area.
According to him, the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation will work to construct a spillway to enhance irrigation and pasture management.
While assuring the residents of their safety, he stressed that the grazing reserve will be a place of delight for people, families, and communities.
“Today, we come with a bag full of commitment, dedication, and passion,
“These were not empty promises. We are here to make a difference, to bring hope, and to ensure that the people of this grazing reserve have access to the resources they need to live with dignity and prosperity”.
The Minister appreciated the Kawu community for their support and expressed confidence that together, they can turn this vision into a reality.
The National President, Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria, (KACRAN), Khalil Mohammed Bello, expressed herders’ preparedness to move to the Kawu grazing reserve.
