… Seizes 30kg of Cannabis in Borno
Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have disrupted an illicit drug supply network linked to terrorist activities, following the arrest of a suspected cannabis dealer in Borno State.
The arrest was carried out on January 23, 2026, under Operation DESERT SANITY V, based on credible intelligence.
The development was confirmed in a statement on Sunday, by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI.
According to the statement, the suspect identified as 65-year-old Hauwa Abulazeez, was apprehended in Askira Uba Local Government Area.
Military sources allege that she played a key role in supplying cannabis sativa to Boko Haram terrorist elements operating across several communities, including Askira Uba, Rumirgo, Gwahi, Wamdiyo, Uvu, and Gaya.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly sourced the illicit drugs from Sarti Baruwa Local Government Area of Taraba State and transported them through established trafficking routes for distribution within the North East theatre of operations.
During the operation, troops recovered 14 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa, estimated to weigh about 30 kilograms.
The seized drugs are believed to have been intended to sustain terrorist logistics and other criminal activities in the region.
The suspect is currently in military custody undergoing preliminary investigation, while follow-up operations are ongoing to identify, trace, and dismantle the wider trafficking and distribution network connected to the operation.
Military authorities noted that the successful interception highlights the importance of disrupting illicit supply chains that fuel terrorism, criminality, and insecurity.
They added that denying such networks access to resources contributes significantly to improving security, weakening criminal influence, and reinforcing law and order across the North East.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations aimed at eliminating all forms of criminality in the region, stressing that troops will continue to apply pressure across the theatre until lasting peace and stability are restored.
