NYSC, SEC Seal Deal on Corps Mentorship

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Olakunle Nafiu, has called on corps employers nationwide to prioritise mentorship for serving corps members, stressing its importance in shaping responsible future leaders.

Nafiu made the call in Abuja while hosting the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Emomotimi Agama, and his delegation at the NYSC headquarters.

This was contained in a statement on Wednesday, 18th March, 2026, by Caroline Embu, Director of Information and Public Relations.

The visit coincided with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between both agencies aimed at promoting financial literacy among corps members across the country.

The NYSC boss commended Agama’s leadership, noting that his administration has strengthened Nigeria’s capital market and boosted public confidence.

He reaffirmed the Scheme’s readiness to collaborate with SEC, adding that the partnership would deliver wide-ranging benefits to corps members and the general public.
“The way you relate with them, build and mentor them will greatly impact their future and the nation,” Nafiu said, describing corps members as resilient young Nigerians in need of guidance and support.

Earlier, Agama praised the NYSC for its critical role in fostering national unity, integration, and socio-economic development. He noted that the Scheme’s nationwide deployment structure makes it a unique platform for grassroots engagement.

He emphasised the need to equip corps members with financial knowledge, stating that such exposure would empower them as they advance into leadership roles.

According to him, corps members remain valuable agents for spreading financial literacy at the community level, adding that the collaboration would further enhance their impact.

Agama also reflected on his own service year, expressing optimism about the partnership and its long-term benefits for Nigerian youths.
