The Federal Ministry of Education has confirmed the successful resolution of a technical issue that affected the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.
The problem emerged during post-release processing, particularly relating to subjects utilizing newly introduced paper serialization for enhanced exam security.
The situation was promptly addressed following a briefing for the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa.
In a statement by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations, on Thursday 7th August, the Ministry commended the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) for their swift and transparent response, noting their professionalism in handling the situation.
Updated results are expected to be accessible via the result checker portal within the next 24 hours. The Ministry also expressed gratitude for the patience of candidates affected by the delay, reaffirming its commitment to fairness and credibility in national assessments.
This recent incident aligns with Dr. Alausa’s broader educational reform agenda, which emphasizes maintaining the integrity of examinations across all regulatory bodies, particularly WAEC and the National Examinations Council (NECO). As part of these reforms, both organizations are set to initiate a phased rollout of Computer-Based Testing (CBT) starting with objective assessments in November 2026.
The implementation of CBT is viewed as a crucial measure in combating malpractice, preventing question leaks, and restoring public confidence in Nigeria’s examination system.
According to Dr. Alausa, it is vital that students are evaluated purely on merit, thereby safeguarding the credibility of their certificates both nationally and internationally.
Highlighting the importance of examination integrity, Dr. Alausa remarked, “Upholding high standards is not optional—it is essential. Protecting our young people’s futures and maintaining Nigeria’s global reputation for academic excellence are of utmost priority.”
