Famous Nigerian singer, Niniola, has reflected on the trauma of watching her father, Simeon Apata, being assassinated.
Spark News Naija recalls that Simeon Apata, a retired Nigerian Army Brigadier-General, was assassinated by gunmen on January 8, 1995, in Lagos, in the presence of his family.
Reflecting on the tragic incident in a recent interview with Jay On Air, Niniola said it is hard for her to get over it because she was her late father’s favourite child.
She said, “I was in the house when my dad was murdered. And I was his favourite child so you can imagine [the trauma]. Till today, I’m not over it. I can never get over it.
“I was very young when it happened. I don’t remember my exact age then but it wasn’t a good memory.”
Her sister, Teni, also a singer, disclosed in 2023 that watching her dad being assassinated at the age of two years left her traumatised.
