… Moves Toward Court-Martial Over Alleged Indiscipline
The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has concluded investigations into sixteen officers arrested in 2025 over allegations of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations, including claims of plotting to overthrow the government.
This was contained in a statement on Monday, by Major General Samaila Uba, Director, Defence Headquarters.
The military confirmed that the investigation process, which began after the officers were detained in October 2025, has been completed and the final report forwarded to the appropriate superior authority in line with existing military regulations.
According to the AFN, the investigations were conducted through established military procedures and involved a comprehensive review of all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected officers.
The findings reportedly identified several of the officers as having cases to answer, particularly over allegations deemed inconsistent with the ethics, values, and professional standards expected of members of the armed forces.
The military said officers found culpable will be formally arraigned before the appropriate military judicial panels to face trial under the Armed Forces Act and other relevant service regulations.
The statement emphasized that the process is designed to foster accountability while respecting fairness and due process.
The AFN stressed that the actions being taken are strictly disciplinary and form part of its internal mechanisms to maintain order, discipline, and operational effectiveness within the ranks.
It reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, loyalty, and respect for constitutional authority.
The military leadership also assured the public that it remains resolute in upholding the highest standards of conduct as it carries out its constitutional responsibility to defend the nation.
