The Federal Government has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigeria’s security agencies for the safe rescue of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire community, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, describing the operation as proof of the administration’s commitment to protecting schoolchildren.
The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, said the successful rescue reflected “the unwavering commitment of the Federal Government to the safety, security and wellbeing of every Nigerian child.”
This was contained in a statement on Wednesday, by Ikharo Attah, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister.
Dr. Alausa, speaking through his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Ikharo Attah, also commended the Oyo State Government under Governor Seyi Makinde for its cooperation and support throughout the rescue process.
“The successful rescue of these innocent children and their teachers is a moment of great relief for the nation. It reflects the determination of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to protect the lives of Nigerians and demonstrates the growing effectiveness of collaboration among the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government and our security agencies,” the Minister said.
He specifically praised the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force, and other intelligence agencies involved in the operation for their “professionalism, courage, coordination and sacrifice,” which led to the victims’ release and the arrest of the perpetrators without harm to those abducted.
Dr. Alausa further lauded the Oyo State Government for its commitment to the welfare, rehabilitation and safe reintegration of the rescued pupils and teachers with their families.
“On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education, I congratulate Mr. President on this important achievement. I also commend the Oyo State Government for its support and commitment throughout this difficult period, and sincerely appreciate the bravery, patriotism and tireless efforts of all the security personnel whose dedication made this rescue possible,” he stated.
The Minister expressed sympathy to the victims and their families for the trauma suffered during captivity and prayed for their speedy physical and psychological recovery.
He reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Education’s resolve to work with stakeholders to strengthen safety and security in schools nationwide, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.
Dr. Alausa also urged parents, communities and school authorities to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to ensure schools remain safe spaces for teaching and learning.
