Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District, Engr. Dr. Osita Ngwu, has visited the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN)’s 9th Mile 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Enugu State, pledging support to address challenges delaying its commissioning.
The lawmaker was received at the facility on Saturday by the Assistant General Manager (Transmission), Enugu Sub-Region, Engr. Madu, alongside other management staff.
During the visit, Engr. Madu briefed the senator on the status of the substation, explaining that although it was completed by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) in 2022, it has yet to be commissioned due to the non-completion of the approximately 22-kilometre New Haven–9th Mile 132kV double-circuit transmission line.
According to him, Right-of-Way (RoW) constraints remain the major obstacle delaying the completion of the transmission line.
He noted that completing the transmission line is essential for the energisation and commissioning of the substation, which will significantly improve bulk electricity supply to the 9th Mile industrial hub and neighbouring communities.
Engr. Madu also stressed the importance of providing adequate security to protect the facility from vandalism before it becomes operational.
Responding, Senator Ngwu acknowledged the urgency of resolving the identified challenges and pledged to support efforts aimed at addressing the Right-of-Way issues.
He also assured TCN of his commitment to strengthening security around the installation to safeguard the critical power infrastructure.
The visit ended with a guided tour of the substation’s control room, switchyard and other key installations, where the senator was briefed on the facility’s operational capabilities and expected impact once commissioned.
