Breaking: NCAA suspends ValueJet pilots over safety breach

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended the licenses of ValueJet pilots Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba following a serious breach of aviation safety protocols at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

This suspension is contained in a statement signed by Michael Achimugu, Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the incident occurred on August 5, 2025, when the pilot commenced departure procedures without adhering to mandatory pre-departure clearance protocols, endangering the safety of ground personnel and other airport users.

Achimugu said the NCAA viewed the incident with utmost seriousness and has taken immediate enforcement action.

Spark News Naija learnt that the suspension of the pilots’ licenses will remain in effect pending the conclusion of a full investigation into the incident.

The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to safety and emphasized that such reckless actions contravene established civil aviation regulations and international safety standards.
