The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results for the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) internal, 54 days after the completion of the last written paper.
NECO Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, made the announcement on Wednesday in Minna, revealing that a total of 1,358,339 candidates participated in the June/July examination period.
In a breakdown of the results, it was disclosed that 818,492 candidates, representing 60.26% met the criteria of achieving five credits and above, including both Mathematics and English.
Overall, an impressive 1,144,496 candidates, or 84.26%, obtained five credits and above, irrespective of whether they passed Mathematics and English.
Total Candidates Registered: 1,367,210 (685,514 males and 681,696 females)
Candidates Who Sat for Examination: 1,358,339 (680,292 males and 678,047 females)
Candidates with Five Credits and Above (including Math and English): 818,492 (60.26%)
Candidates with Five Credits and Above (irrespective of Math and English): 1,144,496 (84.26%)
Prof. Wushishi noted that 1,622 candidates with special needs participated, which included 586 males and 355 females with hearing impairments, as well as 111 males and 80 females with visual impairments.
The Registrar also addressed the issue of examination malpractice, reporting a significant reduction in the number of candidates involved.
A total of 3,878 candidates were implicated in various forms of malpractice this year, a decrease of 61.58% from the 10,094 cases recorded in 2024.
He revealed that 38 schools across 13 states were found to be involved in mass cheating, while nine supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision and various misconducts.
He also mentioned a specific incident in Lamorde Local Government, Adamawa State, where eight schools faced exam disruptions due to communal clashes.
In response to the reviewed curriculum currently being implemented, NECO announced it will now conduct SSCE examinations for only 38 subjects, aimed at reducing the wait time for results in the future.
Prof. Wushishi concluded by highlighting the states’ performance, with Kano State topping the results as 68,159 candidates (5.020%) scored five credits and above, including Mathematics and English.
This was followed by Lagos State with 67,007 candidates (4.930%) and Oyo State with 48,742 candidates. Unfortunately, Gabon recorded no candidates achieving the minimum required credits.
As NECO continues to enhance the integrity and effectiveness of its examination processes, the council aims to address challenges faced during the examinations proactively, ensuring a fair environment for all candidates.
