Vice President Kashim Shettima will lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80) in New York, starting September 23, 2025.

The Session’s theme, “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights,” reflects the international community’s commitment to cooperation and shared solutions.
The Nigeria’s Vice President will be accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar and other senior government officials.
Shettima will highlight Nigeria’s contributions to international cooperation, peace and security, and climate change mitigation in his address to the General Assembly on September 24.
Nigeria’s participation at UNGA80 will focus on promoting sustained economic growth, strengthening international peace and security, advancing human rights, and effective coordination of humanitarian assistance.
The country will also prioritize justice, international law, disarmament, and cooperation against terrorism and crime.
In addition to the General Debate, Nigeria will participate in key side events, including a high-level conference on the Palestine-Israel peace process, a roundtable on energy and security in the Gulf of Guinea, and a symposium on Africa’s digital transformation and fintech opportunities.
The Vice President’s attendance underscores Nigeria’s commitment to global cooperation and its role in addressing pressing international challenges, reinforcing its position as a constructive partner in the global community.
