Ahead of the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has called for the safety of Corps members deployed to the State for the purpose of the election.
“I wish to appeal to the government and the people of Anambra State to see corps members as their children and thereby provide access to security and support to them.
The NYSC boss made the appeal when the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, met with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) on Tuesday at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
While assuring that the lives of the Corps Members will be protected, General Nafia disclosed that he met with the INEC Chairman on this before the meeting commenced.
He urged the Commission to look into the issue of Corps members’ allowances and welfare, as well as their insurance cover.
“So with this we are excited, and we remain committed to supporting INEC to keep its mandate towards conducting credible elections in Anambra State,” he added.
General Nafiu reiterated the scheme’s commitment towards ensuring the security of the corps members, saying he will personally be with them during the Anambra State election.
“To my corps members out there and their parents, I want to assure you that the National Directorate-General is committed to ensuring your security, and I promise to be personally there with you on the ground in Anambra before, during, and after the election,” he concluded.
