The 2025 International Youth Day celebration in Abuja turned into a moment of national pride for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as its National Cultural Troupe clinched a prestigious award from the Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, for an outstanding stage performance.
The honour came after the troupe delivered a vibrant showcase that fused traditional acrobatics, rhythmic music and tightly coordinated dance routines, captivating participants at the event held at the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, Piwoyi.
The performance stood out as one of the highlights of the celebration, underscoring the power of culture as a tool for youth expression and unity.

Speaking while presenting the award plaque to NYSC officials, representatives of the troupe described the recognition as a validation of months of disciplined rehearsals and creative collaboration among Corps members drawn from across the country.
The President of the National Cultural Troupe, Corps Member Pelumi Oni, said the achievement reflected the NYSC’s commitment to nurturing talents alongside its core mandate of national service.
According to him, the supportive environment created by the Scheme has continued to motivate members to strive for excellence both on and off the stage.
Receiving the plaque on behalf of the NYSC Director-General, the Acting Director of Community Development Service and Special Projects, Mrs. Funmilayo Ajayi, praised the dedication of the troupe’s supervisors, noting that consistent mentoring and structured training had helped the group attain professional-level performances.
She also commended the Corps members for channeling their creativity into promoting Nigeria’s diverse cultural heritage, describing them as effective cultural ambassadors who embody the ideals of unity, discipline and service.
The latest recognition further cements the NYSC Cultural Troupe’s growing reputation on national platforms, highlighting how creative arts within the service scheme continue to inspire youth participation and strengthen national cohesion.
