The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has removed structures encroaching on the Ihovbor–Ajaokuta 330kV Transmission Line in Ihovbor Community, Edo State, as part of efforts to safeguard critical national power infrastructure.
In a statement signed by Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, Public Affairs, on February 25, 2026, the company said the clearance exercise was carried out by its Benin Region from Wednesday, February 18 to Friday, February 20, 2026.
According to the statement, the two-day operation was aimed at reclaiming TCN’s Right of Way (ROW) along the transmission corridor. The company explained that prior to the exercise, it had organised sensitization programmes to educate residents on the dangers of building under high-voltage transmission lines. It also issued a three-month notice to the host community and paid compensation to affected persons.
TCN disclosed that the clearance was conducted by a team from its Corporate Headquarters in Abuja in collaboration with the Property Department. Traditional rulers, youth leaders, and other key stakeholders in the community were duly informed before the commencement of the operation.
The company emphasized that the action was necessary to protect lives and property, as well as to ensure the integrity and uninterrupted operation of the Ihovbor–Ajaokuta 330kV Transmission Line.
