The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced the construction of a new 330kV Turn-In Turn-Out transmission line at the Ihovbor Work Centre as part of efforts to strengthen electricity transmission capacity on the national grid.
In a statement, the Benin Region of TCN said the project involves the stringing of the Ihovbor–Ajaokuta 330kV Transmission Line and began on Friday, February 27, 2026.
According to the company, the project is scheduled for completion on Tuesday, March 30, 2026.
TCN explained that the construction of the new line is designed to enhance its capacity to evacuate more electricity generated by the Azura Power Plant and the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) power plant to transmission substations across the country.
The company noted that the project would improve transmission channels, create additional capacity on the grid, and strengthen the reliability of bulk power supply nationwide.
It added that upon completion, the two transmission lines would significantly boost the operational capacity of the Ihovbor Transmission Substation, enabling it to handle increased power flow from major generation sources.
TCN emphasized that the initiative forms part of its broader strategy to expand the nation’s transmission infrastructure and wheeling capacity in order to improve efficiency and ensure more reliable electricity supply across Nigeria.
