The suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara has come under serious criticism, having not initiated reconciliation move to mend relationship with Nyesom Wike since the declaration of a state of emergency in the State.
The chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rivers State chapter, Chief Tony Okocha, said to the best of his knowledge no reconciliation move has been made by the suspended Governor.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the Rivers crisis at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, Okocha said the suspended Governor has only made one attempt to visit Wike in his residence, whom he met rushing out for a trip to London.
“I need to state, or take this opportunity to let you know that there is no reconciliation move made by Governor Fubara on Wike.
Okocha berated Fubara for not making a reconciliation move by now, asking rhetorically, “Shouldn’t the suspended Governor be moving around now to see how to bring about reconciliation?”
He said rather than the governor making moves to mend relationship with his political godfather, he is busy gathering his boys, dancing and eating, and hoping that the President will reverse the state of emergency.
“The reconciliation is not about your team – your boys gather somewhere and you eat, you drink, you dance. What’s that? That’s not it at all. Meanwhile, you hear things like on the 29th of May, when the President marks his second year in office, the state of emergency will be reversed. The 29th came and passed, I didn’t hear that.
“I don’t know where they are getting their facts. What is very strong now in Port Harcourt is that on the 12th June, Democracy Day, the President is going to reverse the emergency”.
He said the best thing for the suspended Governor to do is to have a reconciliation, a thorough reconciliation in such a way that nobody will remember that there was misconduct from him.
“There is no reconciliation ongoing, at least not to my knowledge. At least as Chairman of APC in River State, I should have known, shouldn’t I?
“But the truth of matter is, there is no such thing as reconciliation. I should know, even if they don’t feel like talking to us, I should know.
“No reconciliation move is on. If anybody has facts to counter my claims, invite the person and invite me to a debate”, Okocha stressed.
When asked if the Governor could be pardoned if he defects to the Party, the APC state chairman said: “The issue of reconciliation is not the Party’s. That he joined APC does not mean his sins are forgiven, if that is the case, it would have made the Party a dumping ground ”.
