A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ukodhiko Jonathan, representing Isoko North and South Federal Constituency of Delta State, has defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) over growing concerns that the gale of defection from opposition parties is gradually driving the country into a One-party State.
Addressing journalists at the National Assembly Complex on Democracy Day, Hon. Jonathan attributed the gale of defections rocking opposition parties to the progressive reform policies of Mr. President and the ruling Party.
The Federal lawmaker however allay fears that Nigeria is drifting into One-party state, stating that the President has made it clear he is not in support of it.
He cited the expected registration of new political parties by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as one of the indications that One-party state is not imminent.
On why people are defecting enmasse to APC, Hon. Jonathan stated: “The Renewed Hope Agenda is one of the best things that have happened to Nigerians, and people are defecting to the APC because they have seen progress, it’s not that the President or APC is coercing them”.
He commended Mr. President for taking some bold decisions to move this country forward, “without those decisions, the country cannot move forward”.
