The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to timely and efficient health financing to strengthen primary health care delivery and advance progress toward Universal Health Coverage in Nigeria.
As part of the FG’s commitments, the Ministerial Oversight Committee (MOC) on the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF), on Monday granted approval for the disbursement of ₦32,880,443,906.25 as implementation funds for the third quarter of 2025.
The said amount covers the cumulative allocations for April to June 2025 and is expected to be disbursed by the end of August 2025 or as soon as the funds are released by the appropriate authorities.
The MOC ratified two critical disbursement approvals to ensure seamless implementation of BHCPF in 2025.
Spark News Naija reports that the Committee also approved the application of ₦32,880,443,906.00 drawn from the first quarter 2025 release towards the implementation of BHCPF activities for both the first and second quarters of the year.
This represents ₦16,440,221,953.00 allocated per quarter, in accordance with the provisions of the 2020 BHCPF Guidelines, to ensure continuity and effective use of available resources.
MOC noted that the approvals reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration’s unwavering commitment to strengthening primary health care delivery across the country.
In an interview with journalists at the end of the 11th expanded MOC meeting chaired by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, the Minister said through collaboration with all the State and Local governments, development partners and all actors in the sector, progress is being made in delivery accessible and affordable healthcare services to Nigerians.
According to Prof. Pate, at least 37 million Nigerians have accessed services through health care facilities supported by BHCPF.
Saying, “That’s a landmark achievement and a testament to the collaboration between the Federal government, state government, local government, including the Civil Society Groups, the Private Sector and all others. And together we are making progress”.
While commending the collaborations and the political support of Mr President, the Minister emphasized that one level of government cannot deal with the critical issues of basic health care for all citizens.
The MOC meeting aims to review the progress of BHCPF implementation, strengthen its strategic direction, and advance ongoing reforms under the Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp).
At the meeting, stakeholders presented critical updates across BHCPF gateways and support structures, highlighting key achievements, innovations, and next steps to enhance the Fund’s impact nationwide.
