It was indeed jubilation galore over the weekend when our own Associate Editor, Ms Gloria Ikibah emerges the 13th President of Rotary Club of Abuja City.
The no nonsense Editor made Naijablitznews proud confirming the fact that she’s truly a lady of substance who has passed through all segments of the media from electronic to the print media including heading the communications department of a new generation bank.
In her acceptance speech Ikibah left nobody in doubt that the seasoned communication expert is ready to take the club to greater heights of excellence in the Federal Capital Territory.

“Standing here today fills me with a profound sense of honor and humility. As I take up the mantle of leadership as the 13th President of the Rotary Club of Abuja City, I am deeply aware of the trust you have placed in me.
“This is not just an opportunity but a solemn responsibility—one I embrace wholeheartedly.
“Before I say anything about the journey ahead, I want to take a moment to acknowledge and appreciate the incredible work of our Magic president, Rotarian John Nwosu Moses.
“John, your tireless dedication, your calm wisdom, and your unshakable commitment have held this club together through moments of challenge and triumph alike. You have led by example and inspired every one of us to remember why we became Rotarians in the first place: to serve above self and to make a difference in the lives of others.
“Under your leadership is magical, we have seen remarkable progress—projects completed, partnerships forged, and the spirit of fellowship strengthened. On behalf of all of us, I say thank you, John, for everything you have done and for the legacy you leave behind.
“As I step into this role, I want to assure you all that my foremost intention is to build upon this strong foundation. We will continue the work you have started, with the same energy and passion that you exemplified.
“In the year ahead, as we Unite for Good, our club will remain committed to impactful service. One of our key focus areas will be basic education and literacy, because we all know that education is the seed that grows a better future.
“To this end, we will embark on a project to support the LEA Primary School in the Jahi Community. We plan to provide much-needed materials—exercise books, textbooks, writing supplies, and school bags—to help the children learn with dignity and confidence.
“This project seeks to provide financial and material support to 50 students at LEA Primary School, Jabi, who are at risk of dropping out due to financial challenges. We aim to pay their school fees, supply them with school bags, exercise books, writing materials, and donate textbooks to their library.
“Impact: This initiative will promote literacy and ensure uninterrupted learning for 50 students, fostering their long-term educational development and opening opportunities for a brighter future.
“Evaluation and Measurability: The impact will be tracked through school attendance records, academic performance reviews, and periodic feedback from teachers and parents.
“Another area close to my heart is menstrual hygiene. Far too many girls and women are held back because they lack access to basic hygiene products.
“This year, we will carry out a menstrual hygiene project aimed at distributing reusable menstrual pads and providing training on how to maintain proper hygiene. We want to help end the stigma, promote health, and empower women and girls to stay in school, pursue their ambitions, and live with self-respect.
“This project addresses the challenge of menstrual poverty by distributing 1,000 reusable menstrual pads to girls and women in Jahi community. The initiative will help improve menstrual health, reduce absenteeism in schools, and promote overall well-being.
“Impact: By providing sustainable menstrual hygiene solutions, this project will enhance the dignity and productivity of 1,000 girls and women, ensuring they can attend school or work without interruption.
“Evaluation and Measurability: The project’s success will be measured through surveys and interviews with beneficiaries, alongside tracking the reduction in school absenteeism among adolescent girls.
Sustainability: Girls and women will be taught how to produce the pads.
“In addition to these projects, we will remain open to new ideas and initiatives that align with Rotary’s core values. Whether it is community health, economic empowerment, or environmental stewardship, we will not waver in our commitment to service.
“But none of this is possible without you, city boys and girl. Each of you brings your own unique talents, time, and resources to this club. It is because of your generosity, your resilience, and your belief in our collective mission that our club has continued to thrive.
“I want to thank you for your support so far and for the support I know you will continue to extend as we write this next chapter together.
“To our past presidents and senior Rotarians, your dedication has built this club into what it is today—a community that values service, friendship, and integrity. Your leadership continues to light the way, and I hope to draw upon your experience and guidance in the coming months.
“As we look ahead, I invite every member to stay engaged, to bring forward your ideas, and to participate actively in our projects. Let us continue to be a club that others look up to—not because of our size or resources but because of the sincerity of our service and the impact we create together.
“Let me end by saying that I am excited for the journey before us. I have no doubt that if we work hand in hand, support one another, and stay true to our shared purpose, we will not only achieve our goals but exceed them. Together, we will lift our communities and enrich countless lives, just as Rotary has always done.
