As the race to fill the Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa’s vacated seat in the House of Representatives for Ovia South/West-Ovia North/East Federal Constituency of Edo State, began in ernest, Hon Oscar Aghedo has expressed readiness to step into the Federal office by purchasing the All Progressives Congress (APC) Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.
He cited legislative interventions in infrastructural development in his constituency as his major reason for vying for the Federal House of Representatives seat.
Addressing journalists at the APC national secretariat in Abuja on Monday, after picking the forms, Hon. Aghedo pledged to make his constituents proud if elected.
“Today is a great day for me, having purchased these forms to run for the Federal House of Representatives for Ovia South-West/Ovia North-East Federal Constituency. My intention to represent my people in the Green Chambers is simply to make good laws for our country and to ensure proper representation for my people, especially in the area of infrastructural development.
“I assure you that I will make my people proud. My constituents are here with me, and I sincerely appreciate them for their support so far”, he said.
Hon. Aghedo, while appreciating the Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and the State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, called for a transparent party primaries.
“I also want to appeal to the National Working Committee for credible and transparent primaries which our party is known for. I am confident that come July 19th, we will have a free and fair primary election in my constituency”.
He disclosed that his major focus if elected will be on youth empowerment across Ovia South-West and Ovia North-East, saying Hon. Idahosa had done very well in infrastructure and empowerment during his time as a member representing the Constituency.
When pressed on his relationship with Governor, he said: “Senator Okpebholo is our leader, our father, and our governor. That is why, in my opening remarks, I thanked him for his leadership and support. We are proud of him, considering all he has achieved for Edo State.
“By the grace of God, I have the blessings of God, his (Governor) support, and the mandate of my people”.
Spark News Naija reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had set Saturday, 16th August 2025, as the date for a new round of bye-elections in 16 constituencies across 12 states of the Federation.
While making the announcement recently, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu said the bye-elections are necessitated by vacancies in two Senatorial Districts of Anambra South and Edo Central, five Federal Constituencies, and nine State Assembly seats, stemming from deaths, resignations, and legal disputes.
