Yobe State, today marked its 34th anniversary, being created on August 27, 1991, out of the old Borno State, with Damaturu as its capital.
The Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, led the celebrations, emphasizing the importance of reflection on the past while looking forward to a united future.
Senator Gaidam expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the progress made in Yobe since its inception on August 27, 1991, under the leadership of former President General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.
In his heartfelt statement on Wednesday, the Minister acknowledged the sacrifices made by leaders, heroes, and ordinary citizens whose collective efforts transformed Yobe from a dream into a reality.
“This occasion is not just a moment of joy but also a time for sober reflection on our history and struggles,” Senator Gaidam remarked.
He honored the late leaders who played pivotal roles in shaping the state’s destiny, praying for their eternal rest and for recognition of their contributions.
Stressing the trials that Yobe has faced, particularly in security and development, the Minister noted the resilience of its people as a testament to their strength. “Together, we have withstood storms, and together we shall build a brighter tomorrow,” he stated, calling for renewed investments in education, agriculture, healthcare, and infrastructure.
Senator Gaidam urged all Yobe residents, both at home and abroad, to embrace the values of peace, tolerance, and unity, asserting that “our diversity should be our strength.”
The Minister emphasized that true progress can only be achieved through unity, which is essential for overcoming challenges and consolidating gains.
Addressing the younger generation, the Minister encouraged the youth to carry forward the vision of Yobe’s founding fathers with innovation and commitment, stressing the critical role they play in the state’s future.
The Senator reiterated his commitment to fostering peace and security in Yobe and across Nigeria, declaring, “Security is the bedrock of progress”.
He called on citizens to remain grateful for the blessings bestowed upon the state while praying for its continued growth and prosperity.
