The Ondo State Government has addressed reports of a protest related to the recent recruitment of teachers, stating that the protesters were actually victims of a scam who had been defrauded by individuals issuing fake employment and posting letters.
Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s administration clarified that the protesters were not teachers but applicants who paid money to scammers promising them teaching jobs through the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
According to Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the fraudulent applicants were identified during the biometric verification process when it was discovered their employment letters were fake.
The government has already taken disciplinary action against three SUBEB insiders alleged to have colluded with external parties to defraud the applicants.
The Ondo State Government confirmed that over 2,000 teachers duly employed for primary and secondary schools have commenced work. Governor Aiyedatiwa has instructed SUBEB management to invite the fraud victims for a meeting, and a committee has been set up to further investigate the matter.
The government appears committed to addressing the fraud and supporting the victims while distinguishing between legitimate recruits and those duped by scammers.
