Political evangelism has started,’ Enugu caretaker committee says

The newly appointed All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of the party in Enugu State said they have already hit the ground running as regards the mandate of the committee.

The 7-man caretaker committee was charged by the APC National Working Committee, led by Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, to reconcile warring factions in the state and expand the party in terms of membership while inaugurating it on Friday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

Recall that the NWC on Thursday, 9th October, 2025, dissolved the Enugu State executive and appointed a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the party in the state.

Addressing journalists after the inauguration, the chairman of the caretaker committee, Dr. Ben Nwoye, said the committee has already started reaching out to members of the different factions.

“We are founding members, and we have been found this month to serve the people of Enugu State by heading this particular committee.

“We have already hit the ground running. The charge given to us by the chairman, His Excellency—that charge has already begun.

“I can tell you that already we have started approaching people. We have started reaching out to people. That is why you see the gentleman and lady who came here today and accompanied us.

“I’m happy to announce to you that, as of yesterday, in the course of our discussion, evangelism has started, political evangelism,” he said.

Dr. Nwoye lamented the low votes recorded by the APC in the last election in the state, describing it as a thing of shame that the party will never allow to repeat itself.

“Last election, shamefully, we only recorded 3,774 votes. I’m ashamed of that. Our leaders are ashamed of that, and we want to turn it around.

“You recall that in the last election, the opposition scored the most wins in Enugu State. And we’re seeing that never again with the composition of these men and women that stand in here, and with the help of our governor, who in two years has transformed Enugu State,” he added.

While commending Governor Mbah for his transformative work in the state, the caretaker committee chairman said in barely two years, the governor has taken Enugu from a state that was almost behind in all ramifications to now a frontline state.

According to him, Enugu is now number five in the economic generated revenue, surpassing any other state in the East and surpassing most other states in the West. And even in the North.”

“I thank you for affording us the opportunity. I think we have work to do. We will step back and do that work of unification,” he concluded.
