The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Kaduna Region, has intensified efforts to curb vandalism and encroachment on transmission line Right-of-Way (RoW) through strategic engagement with traditional leaders in parts of Kaduna State.
Leading the delegation, the General Manager (Transmission), Kaduna Region, Engr. Nasir Mansur Fada, paid sensitization visits to the palaces of the Sarkin Mando, Alhaji Sani Musa, and the District Head of Rigasa Community, Arch. Aminu Mohammed Idris, as part of a community awareness campaign in the Mando and Rigasa areas.
During the meetings, Engr. Fada expressed concern over the growing rate of illegal developments beneath high-tension transmission lines, warning that the construction of houses, shops, and other structures within designated transmission corridors poses grave health and safety risks.
He stressed that erecting structures under high-voltage lines exposes residents to dangers such as electrocution, particularly in the event of a line cut or technical fault. According to him, individuals who deliberately encroach on designated RoW areas do so at their own risk, noting that TCN would not be liable for compensation in cases of electrical accidents.
The TCN official further highlighted that vandalism of transmission infrastructure and violations of the Right-of-Way not only endanger lives but also threaten the stability and reliability of bulk electricity supply within the region and across the country.
He called on traditional rulers to support the company’s efforts by sensitizing their communities on the dangers of encroachment and the need to protect critical national infrastructure.
The engagement forms part of TCN’s broader strategy to strengthen collaboration with host communities in safeguarding transmission assets and ensuring uninterrupted power supply.
