The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) linking it to a reported shooting incident involving ADC members in Edo State, describing the opposition party as “its own nemesis.”
In a press statement issued Thursday in Abuja and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC said the ADC was quick to accuse the ruling party without allowing security agencies to conduct investigations into the incident.
The ADC had, in a statement dated February 25, 2026, alleged that the APC was responsible for the shooting. However, the ruling party described the claim as “utterly delusional” and a violation of due process, accusing the ADC of appointing itself “accuser, investigator, prosecutor, and judge” in the matter.
The APC criticized the ADC’s reference to alleged “acts of terrorism by the ruling APC,” calling the characterization reckless and insensitive, particularly in light of ongoing national security challenges and the sacrifices of security personnel.
While condemning violence in the political space, the APC called on the police and other law enforcement agencies to carry out a thorough and expeditious investigation into the Edo incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The party further urged investigators to scrutinize the ADC’s internal affairs, alleging that the opposition party is plagued by leadership tussles and factional disputes. It claimed that widely reported clashes among ADC leaders over control of party structures should form part of the probe.
The APC denied any involvement in the shooting, stating that it was focused on consolidating what it described as recent electoral victories in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) municipal elections as well as constituency elections in Rivers and Kano states.
The party expressed appreciation to voters in the FCT, Kano and Rivers states for their support, reaffirming its commitment to delivering on its mandate under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.
According to the statement, the APC and the President remain committed to building “a stronger, more resilient and prosperous country” for all Nigerians.
