The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Wednesday said it has received letters of intent from 110 associations seeking to be register as political parties.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu disclosed this during the second quarterly consultative meeting with the media at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
Prof. Yakubu said the Commission is diligently processing the requests in line with the procedure outlined in the law as well as our Regulations and Guidelines.
“As at Monday, 23rd June 2025, the Commission has received letters of intent from 110 associations that wish to register as political parties
“We are diligently processing the requests in line with the procedure outlined in the law as well as our Regulations and Guidelines.
“We have acknowledged all requests received so far except six of them received recently which will be done before the end of the week.
“For emphasis, I wish to inform Nigerians, particularly those interested in registering new political parties, that the handbook containing the Regulations and Guidelinesfor Political Parties 2022is already available on the Commission’s website”, he stated.
The INEC boss announced that the full list of the 110 associations seeking registration as political parties indicating their proposed names, acronyms, addresses and the names of their pro tem Chairmen and Secretaries will be uploaded into the Commission’s website.
On the outstanding bye-elections and the resumption of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), Prof. Yakubu said the Commission is now ready to conduct the bye-elections and to resume the nationwide CVR.
He however, hinted that they are finalising the details of the two activities which will be made public in the next 24 hours.
Spark News Naija recalls that reports went viral last month, claiming that INEC will resume the CVR, including services such as the transfer and replacement of lost Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), on May 27, 2025.

said the Commission was yet to announce a resumption date for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).
