In a significant stride towards enhanced military collaboration in Africa, Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, H.E. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, met with a delegation from the Namibian Command and Staff College today, expressing strong support for regional defence cooperation.
The 26-member delegation, led by Brigadier Benhard Erastus, Commandant of the College, is in Nigeria as part of its study tour aimed at gaining insights into Nigeria’s defence strategies and policies.
In a statement on Monday, by Enderline Chukwu, AD, on behalf of the Director, Information and Public Relations, the Minister commended the Namibian institution’s commitment to fostering defence education on the continent during the meeting at Ship House in Abuja.
Highlighting historical ties between Nigeria and Namibia, Minister Badaru reinforced Nigeria’s dedication to mutual support in efforts to restore and maintain African peace and security.
“Our shared history in the continent’s liberation struggles serves as a foundation for further collaborations.
“Together, we can ensure stability in our regions and address the challenges posed by external forces looking to divide us” he stated.
According to Chukwu, the meeting featured a presentation by the Joint Service Department, which outlined Nigeria’s military architecture and its approach to civil-military relations.
The engaging discussion that followed highlighted the mutual understanding and knowledge share that are vital for addressing contemporary security challenges facing African nations.
Brigadier Erastus, in turn, expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended by both the Nigerian government and the Ministry of Defence. He noted the importance of gathering insights from Nigeria, given its prominent role in regional leadership and security initiatives.
“Understanding Nigeria’s defense policies is crucial for our goals in sustainable economic development in Namibia,” he remarked.
The Namibian delegate appreciated the Minister and presented a plaque of honour to the Ministry of Defence, symbolizing the growing partnership between Nigeria and Namibia.
As Africa faces myriad security challenges, this meeting marks a pivotal moment in the commitment of both nations to work collaboratively towards a more secure and united continent.
