The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed as false and misleading a viral publication alleging that corps members are being exposed to danger and ransom arrangements.
This was contained in a statement, on Tuesday, by the Management.
The scheme described the report as alarmist and riddled with unverified claims capable of inciting fear and eroding public confidence. NYSC clarified that there is no “ransom clause” in its Act or bye-laws, stressing that such assertions are entirely fictitious.
It also expressed sympathy with Musa Usman Abba and his family over a recent incident but clarified that he is not a serving corps member, having completed his service in 2023.
Reaffirming its commitment to corps members’ welfare, NYSC highlighted existing safety measures, including a long-standing insurance partnership with Capital Express Assurance Limited, health coverage, and over ₦500 million spent on medical interventions in the past five years.
The scheme added that it works closely with security agencies to ensure the safety of corps members, including providing escorts in high-risk areas and relocating orientation camps to safer locations in several states.
It urged the media and the public to verify information before dissemination, warning that fake news undermines national institutions and public trust.
