Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, on Thursday inaugurated a completed section of the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to infrastructure development in the Southeast while calling on the region to deliver overwhelming electoral support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
Speaking at the event, Umahi said the intervention of the President rescued the project from years of stagnation, noting that the road—once a seven-hour journey—has begun to witness significant transformation under the current administration. He disclosed that the first 50 kilometres of reinforced concrete pavement is nearing completion, with 15 kilometres already opened to ease Easter travel.
The minister highlighted several ongoing and completed road projects across the Southeast, attributing the renewed pace of development to Tinubu’s leadership and commitment to equitable infrastructure distribution across the country.
Beyond infrastructure, Umahi urged Southeast leaders and citizens to adopt a strategic political approach by supporting the President, insisting that unity and bloc voting would strengthen the region’s negotiating power at the national level. He emphasized that development, inclusion, and political relevance are tied to collective support, urging leaders to actively communicate the administration’s achievements to the grassroots.
He also dismissed claims of marginalisation, pointing to increased federal presence in the region, and maintained that sustained support for the current administration would ensure the completion of critical projects and further integration of the Southeast into national development priorities.
