The All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a strong rebuttal against the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accusing the opposition party of being responsible for its internal crisis and political challenges.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, the APC described the ADC as a party plagued by confusion and desperation, alleging that it has resorted to promoting unfounded conspiracy theories about attempts to undermine its structure.
The ruling party argued that the ADC’s current predicament was self-inflicted, stemming from what it called a violation of the party’s constitutional processes and disregard for the rule of law. It specifically referenced the emergence of a factional leadership under former Senate President David Mark and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, which it claimed destabilized the party.
According to the APC, the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to de-recognize the factional leadership was lawful and consistent with democratic principles, as it was based on a court judgment.
“The ADC set its own date with destiny through reckless actions and must now face the consequences,” the statement read, adding that it was “irresponsible” for the party to blame the APC for its internal issues.
The APC further criticized the ADC for what it described as an inability to manage its internal affairs, arguing that such shortcomings render the party unfit to be considered a credible alternative by Nigerians.
“A party that cannot fix itself cannot possibly fix Nigeria,” the statement added.
The ruling party also accused the ADC of lacking substantive policy ideas, alleging that its primary focus has been on attacking the APC rather than presenting a viable agenda to Nigerians.
Reaffirming its commitment to governance, the APC said the administration of President Bola Tinubu remains focused on delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda and strengthening democratic institutions for national development.
The statement was signed by Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC.
The ADC is yet to respond to the latest remarks by the ruling party.
